H.O.G. Big Five Modjadji Rally Reportback

Chapter Organiser:

  • National Rally

The Magoebaskloof Hotel on the R71 was colourfully decked out in Harley-Davidson® and H.O.G.® colours on Friday 4th November. Arriving bikers made felt at home the moment they stepped into the Harley- Davidson® and H.O.G.® branded finery in the hotel entrance. The Harley® truck from Cape Town was party ready, stage extended with very busy D.J’s., who had the music going, and the anticipation palpable for the first bikes to arrive. The Magoebaskloof pass reverberated to the wonderful roar of the Harley® ‘V’ twin engines, as the H.O.G.® Big Five Chapter Pack took the mountain pass in its stride. What a wonderful sight it was to see the bikes coming down the hill toward the Hotel entrance, the fun and games were about to begin.

Havana Nights!

Outside the hotel entrance tables were set up under the colourful garlands of flower streamers, colourful umbrellas and table décor complementing and enhancing our Havana Nights theme. Attendees arrived throughout the afternoon, and were welcomed by committee members dressed in bright orange shirts, photographs were taken and smiles and laughter abounded everywhere. Martin, the DJ, kept everyone happy with music and fun antics, as the braai fires were lit, everyone was enjoying a drink under a beautiful clear sunny day. Old friendships for those who have not seen each other in ages were renewed, and new friends made as the Modjadji Rally unfolded.

Friday night music comedian friends Abbott and Crabb entertained the throng of rally goers, as only they could and laughter was the order of the night. ‘Straf’ doppe had to be imbibed by numerous people for many, sometimes obscure reasons. Supper as only the talented Hotel staff could provide was a true South African braai. The vibe was great and as the time neared the late hour, Klasie Viljoen from Bloemfontein’s Harley-Davidson® was unceremoniously driven into the party area with music blaring, this off course kept the rally goers on their feet, long after many others had gone to bed.. only the diehards remained.

Harley riders take over the town

Saturday morning the Harley® truck moved to the village of Haenertsburg, in the park area the stage was erected and preparation was made for the day’s entertainment. The town was decked out in Harley Owners Group® banners and flags making an impressionable statement as to who is ruling the roost in town. Lovely Nazlee from Cape Town erected a tent on site to wow everyone into buying merchandise. Harley-Davidson® motorcycles were off-loaded and put on display – it was a true Harley® extravaganza. The DJ soon had guys and gals involved in various games and great fun ensued. Soon after, the Pack arrived from the Hotel, there were Harleys® were parked all over town, multi viewed and enjoyed by all and sundry.H.O.G.® Big Five Chapter invited thirty three kids from a local farm school as guests for the day. Martin and Andre did a wonderful job, they kept the kids laughing, dancing, and entertained all day. Colleen from the Red Plate opposite the rally site good heartedly sponsored the lunch for all the kids. This was a fantastic and successful community project.

Many of the rally goers went on the Magoebaskloof Canopy tour which was an option they took hold of with gusto, and thoroughly enjoyed. All returned exhausted, but well satisfied with their day in the Letaba Valley, zipping along one the finest zip-lines in the country, views over the valley, river, and waterfalls below breathtaking.

Welcome to Woodstock!

Saturday night was Gala night – the theme – WOODSTOCK. It was wonderful to see how everyone joined in the fun, the outfits were something to see. The Hall was decorated following the theme, tables were colourful, hoola-hoops with the peace sign in the inner circle made from flowers hung from the light fittings. It was a colourful extravagant display that boggled the mind. Abbott and Crabb once again entertained and Martin with ‘Noot for Noot’ ensured an evening of great fun. Rotary members whom attended joined in the fun together with Karin from the Thusanang Trust, dancing the night away with Harley® Owners.

Various awards were handed out, H.O.G.® Clearwater Chapter for the most participants, besides Big Five Chapter of course! The couple that came by car received a special award but we won’t kiss and tell. First time rally goer, the furthest to ride to the rally, and various others awards were handed out and received with cheers and hoots. The Director, Oskar romantically gave his wife a steel nail to celebrate their wedding anniversary ... steel representing the 11th anniversary and was presented with a bottle of champagne in celebration. She certainly has put the nail in his coffin!.. or did he nail himself?

Charity Donation to Thusanang Trust

The big event of the evening was the Donation to the Thusanang Trust via the Rotary Club of Haenertsburg, for R10 000, further donations were raised by various means and the final amount donated was R17 000. And with Rotary’s contribution this would immediately be doubled to an amount of R34 000. A wonderful end to a successful Rally in the Magoebaskloof mountain.

Without a doubt that the Modjadji Rally was a success, achieving what had been set out to do. Providing rally participants a weekend to remember, ensuring the children a wonderful day and handover of the donation to a worthy recipient. H.O.G.® Big Five Chapter can be proud.

Thanks and appreciation extended to the Big Five Harley-Davidson® dealership, Cape Town Harley- Davidson®, PSG Insure, Magoebaskloof Hotel and others for their contribution that made the Rally the success it was.
